The Prophet Shiraz

Our Resurrection Vineyard in the Ebenezer sub-district of the Northern Barossa Valley, is blessed with varying topography, where the depth of the ancient red soils varies from centimeters to tens of meters. Amongst these soils are various Shiraz plantings that date back nearly a century, alongside younger – yet still mature – vines including ‘Maywald’, ‘Tahbilk’ and ‘1654’ selections. The combination of soil depth, aspect, vine age and vine selection makes each Shiraz parcel so distinctive, that small amounts are bottled each vintage as ‘Block’ wines under our Special Selections label.

The Prophet is a blend of these special parcels, making it the embodiment of highly prized Shiraz vines from the Northern Barossa, Ebenezer, Resurrection Vineyard.

Wine Press and Accolades

2016 The Prophet Shiraz - 93 points - Wine Companion – Sep 2018

Destemmed, open-fermented with cultured yeast, 7 days on skins, matured in French oak (50% new) for 18 months. A no-holds-barred wine tasted shortly after bottling, circumstances in which new French oak will always be very obvious. It’s a classy shiraz with intense berry fruits and tannins, which even now provide balance. Needs time.

2016 The Prophet Shiraz - 90 points - Huon Hooke – Mar 2018

Deep, dark red/purple colour. Rich blackberry, fresh earth and dark chocolate aromas – bold, ripe, warm-climate Aussie shiraz writ large. It’s fleshy, balanced and deep, and very agreeable. Better in a year or two: there is a trace of astringency at this moment. But it has very good potential. (From the Ebenezer subregion)Drink 2019 to 2036

2016 The Prophet Shiraz - 93 points - Toni Paterson - The Real Review – Mar 2018

Warming alcohol with ripe, aromatic fruit. Vibrant, intense, vanilla-scented red-cherries. Delicious, poised flavours. Energetic and persistent. (Screwcap) Score: 93 ★★★★ Ageing: now to 2023. Food: Osso Bucco
