The Evangelist Shiraz
Barossa

The Evangelist is sourced from three key sub-regions in the Barossa, each showcasing an distinguished example of old-vine-Shiraz.

Eden Valley: Grower Mick Hearnden,
55-year-old plantings.
Ebenezer:Grower Warwick Murray, Resurrection Vineyard,
80-year-old plantings.
Stonewell: Growers Paul & Angie Schutz,
80-year-old Bush Vines

We cherish Barossa Old-Vine Shiraz for complexity and nuance, reflection of growing site, and depth of flavour. We blended these three parcels as an Evangelist for the ancient vines which inhabit this wonderful and wildly diverse growing region.

Tony Keys - The Key Report

2014 The Evangelist Shiraz: 97 points

“Made from grapes originating in three vineyards: two plantings of 80-year-old vines and a youngster just 55 years old. It's all that top-quality, old-vine Barossa shiraz should be, and more. A wonderful, wicked temptress that takes one to heights of pleasure. Fantastic wine. 97 points and worth $58.”

2015 The Evangelist Shiraz: 95 points

“(Barossa Valley & Eden Valley) Deep red/purple hue and a spicy, fumy, violets and licorice aroma, the palate lively, intense, tight and finely focused - elegant rather than rich or expansive. I like the style. (From 3 prized old-vine vineyards, in Eden Valley, Stonewell and Ebenezer)”

2015 The Evangelist Shiraz: 95 points

“I do like a wicked wine, one that says don't fiddle around with wasted words, just get down to the action. Let this beauty entwine you in her strong, sensuous arms, and lead you to a place your mother would be shocked at you going to. As for your dad? Well, he's just annoyed he never got there. 95 points and well worth $58”

2014 Block 3 Shiraz: 95 points

“Grown on three vineyards : 55-year-old vines in the Eden Valley; 80-year-old vines in the Ebenezer sub-region; 80-year-old bush vines at Stonewall. All into French of, 50% new. It's swish. It's soft. It's plush and generous, without ever seeming overdone, or even close to it. It's alive with black and blue berried fruit, jubey anise then keeping the sweet flow of flavour coming. Lift? There's plenty. Floral. You can stamp this with the words 'fundamentally delicious'. It's a cracker. It has the tannin structure to match; it leaves no stone unturned.”

James Halliday - Wine Companion

2014 Evangelist Shiraz: 96 Points

“Strong colour; exceptional mouthfeel ex tannins; much more savoury, but not at expense of dark black fruits, anise; distinguished wine from three old vine vineyards in Eden and Barossa Valleys; very good tannins. Matured for 12 months in French hogsheads (50% new), then blended and matured for a further 6 months in older French oak. ”
