Located in South Australia's Barossa Valley, we are inspired by the characters, the history and vineyards of this great wine region.

Growers

In addition to our Resurrection Vineyard, Phil, Charlie James and Warwick work closely with a carefully aligned group of local growers, many of whom are from multi-generational Barossa grape growing families. These growers not only supply fruit for our wines, but also contribute their heritage, stories and personalities; the essence of St John’s Road.

Paul and Angie Schutz

Paul and Angie Schutz - Stonewell

Positioned in the famous Stonewell region of the Barossa - well known for its high quality reds - Paul and Angie Schutz tend to a beautifully mixed property of Shiraz, Mataro and Grenache grapes. Along with their small hobby farm, Paul keeps busy selling vineyard equipment while Angie maintains a very hands-on approach amongst the vines. While the low-yielding crops currently produce outstanding fruit for the existing St Johns Road range, they also have some glorious 80-year-old bush-vine Shiraz, which will be made into a premium single vineyard wine from the 2014 vintage.

Andy Kalleske

Andy Kalleske - Moppa, Ebenezer, Nuriootpa

Andy is the youngest in succession to a family of professional grape growers; his parents John and Barb have paved the way, being consistent with quality and yield, to give the Kalleske name well earned respect in the district. They have vineyard holdings in the Moppa, Ebenezer and Nuriootpa sub-regions of the Barossa Valley, which although mostly planted to Shiraz, also contain some more exotic grape varieties such as Durif and Negroamaro.

Ben Zander

Ben Zander - Eden Valley

Occupying a picturesque property in one of the cooler corners of the Barossa, Ben and his parents Ian and Jo are the proud growers of Riesling and Chardonnay for St Johns Road. Their Eden Valley acreage 'Wroxton Grange' is situated on Wilton Road and aside form being the key fruit source for our Peace of Eden Riesling, it has also been the cornerstone Riesling source for the famous Steingarten label for many years. Aside from viticulture, Ben's hobbies are centred around motorcycle riding with both him and his dad Ian active members of the Keyneton Motorcycle Club.

Phil and Sarah Lehmann

Phil and Sarah Lehmann - Eden Valley

In addition to his winemaking duties, Phil and Sarah maintain a beautiful low-yielding Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon vineyard in the Barossa Ranges, at Eden Valley. While Phil's upbringing has always been somewhat centred around the wine industry, Sarah's earlier life with the Australian Ballet was not quite as textbook. Since her 'retirement' from professional dancing, Sarah has been immersed into the country lifestyle with not only their 25 acre vineyard to tend to, but also a 10 acre Manzanillo Olive grove which is soon to be the source of some cracking St John's Road olive oil.

Terry and Jan Riley

Terry and Jan Riley - Eden Valley

Terry and Jan Riley maintain a beautiful 96 hectare property just over a kilometre east of Eden Valley village. Their vineyards are grown on thick, loamy sand, over brown clay, producing fruit that showcases classic Eden Valley minerality. Elevation sits at about 400 metres with a gentle slope to the north-east which acts as a crucial frost barrier. While the Rileys grow a number of varieties, it is their premium Riesling and Shiraz fruit that we use for the Peace of Eden and Blood and Courage wines. Besides tending the vineyards Jan works full time teaching at Mt Pleasant Primary School, while Terry tries to fit in a couple of rounds of golf throughout the week.
